Emulating a Professional Photographer

Best Image Taken

I believe this was my best photo taken for this project. Since it might have been difficult as a beginner to edit the girl in the photo floating in mid air, I decided to take a different approach and give her a balloon representing a different floating object. This photo varied more from Gaskell's original photo of the girl floating more so than my other pictures, but the object of the girl in the center with the trees in the background inspired it. This image is my favorite because it emulates the same theme that is apparent in all of Gaskell's photos, which is the contrast between unsettling and comforting. We see that the girl is standing in a graveyard which gives the photo a darker vibe, but she is holding a smiley face balloon which adds an element of comfort and safety - similar to the young girl that appears in Gaskell's photos who is presented in a slightly unsettling way that still gives the viewer a sense of comfort and nostalgia. I also tried to create some of the same colors, with the blue and yellow pastells relating to the girl and the darker background among the trees (this also adds to the unsettling/comforting contrasting theme). The most difficult aspect of taking this photo was creating the eerie atmosphere, alongside editing the photo to emulate Gaskell's somber style. To create stronger images in the future, I will manipulate the angle and lighting of my photos to create a more professional appearance.

Keelin, I love how interesting you've made your image through the juxtaposition between the moody, dark graveyard and the playful smiley-face balloon. I think you emulated Gaskell's style in a creative way and did a great job using similar colors and lighting. Additionally, the model's pose and facial expression match the vibe of the photo perfectly. Great job!!
